Minor Harry Potter beasts

[edit]

Ihave reverted your last change to Minor Harry Potter beasts. I have done this because the page is specificly for creatures and/or specific varities of creatures (eg. Hungarian Horntails) that were created by J.K. Rowling. Other creatures that are mentioned in Harry potter that are (eg gryffins, manticores, unicorns, etc...) should be covered on the respective wikipedia pages. Kevmin 01:25, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portal questions

[edit]

Additions to the portal need to be discussed before being added. If we were to add "question of the day" sections, they would need to be consistent with the format of the rest of the portal, in any case.--ragesoss 17:04, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits to Wikicalendar pages

[edit]

Hey Hempfel, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your recent edits to the Wikicalendar pages. I noticed that some of your recent birth/death entries are in the form of complete sentences - that's not necessary, since the title implies that everyone under the heading was born/died on that date. Instead, all the info you need to put there is the person's name, nationality, and one or two-word description of the person's most important occupation or role. Let me know if you have any questions on my talk page. Thanks :). Fabricationary 03:46, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. I have nominated your most recent article Aha Variable for deletion as a likely hoax. Given your history of nonsense and misleading edits to articles and the fact you've been blocked for that, I would have hoped you would have stopped making stuff up on Wikipedia. If you wish to comment in the AfD debate you may. Thanks, Gwernol 22:21, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Google returns: zero results for "aha variable algebra". The best you can do is a few results for "aha calculus" which: 1) is not what your article is about, and 2) is at the least a controversial opinion, not established fact. Gwernol 22:59, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, Google returns [1]. Only the first two results are anything to do with what you claim in your article. The rest are unrelated. The two results that relate have already been discussed and are at best dubious. Please read reliable sources and verifiability. Thanks, Gwernol 23:19, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just to jump in here, as you left a comment on my talk page about this, I looked over the article and agree with its proposed deletion. I take your word that this article is not a hoax, but even as a true article, it doesn't seem to meet Wikipedia's notability standards. I have discussed this a bit more on the AfD page. Your asking me to delete the deletion box from the page demonstrates what I think is a misunderstanding on your part of our deletion policy. When an article is nominated for AfD, the first user who disagrees for whatever reason doesn't go delete the box (in fact, removing them is considered vandalism). If a user disagrees with the deletion, he or she can voice his or her opinions at the AfD page, but AfD is NOT a matter of "counting heads," and the ultimate deletion/keep/merging/other action done to the page is judged by the validity of the points given with respect to Wikipedia's policies. Going around a bunch of user's talk pages trying to solicit votes isn't the way to save a page. Fabricationary 23:31, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox abuse

[edit]

You really ought to remove some of your userboxes; I could remove them myself, but I think that would be in poor form. While you might think it is cool to collect as many as you want, it really clutters up the page and detracts from the content of your page. I'm not sure how they display on a larger monitor, but for those of us on 1024x768 laptop screens it really marginalizes the text.

Furthermore, the inclusion of many of your userboxes is simply inappropriate because you do not truly belong to all of the groups you claim to. For example, you cannot be celtic, norse, british, AND ethnically chinese, etc all at the same time. People use the userbox category pages to find other users with the same interests, preferences, and activities.

I got to your page by clicking on the MIT userbox on my userpage with the intent of seeing what kinds of other people from MIT are writing for wikipedia these days. Having a userbox of someone who attends or has attended MIT on your profile is simply misleading. You should remove this userbox from your profile immediately.

If you want to make userboxes that are similar but accurately represent yourself with messages like "I am interested in (insert country/culture)" or "I want to attend (insert college/university)" that would be a useful addition to the wiki community. Details on how to code your own userboxes can be found here: Userboxes.

Please help keep wikipedia professional and accurate by correcting your page.

Speedy deletion of Aída Balta

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Aída Balta requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Tagging José Villa Soberón for further review

Hello, Hempfel … I recently encountered the article about José Villa Soberón and in my opinion, it either lacks sufficient Attribution that it satisfies the Notability criteria for Biographies, or it may violate the Conflict of interest guideline, or perhaps it violates a copyright.

I am considering tagging José Villa Soberón (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) for deletion according to the Deletion policy … I do not have time to examine the article in depth at the moment, and it may improve over time, in which case this warning was premature.

I have created this initial entry on your Talk page because you are either the original author of the article, or else a recent contributor to it; I will leave more detailed information regarding my specific concerns about the article on its Discussion page … please respond either there or on this Talk page, instead of on my Talk page, in order to avoid fragmenting the conversation.

I do not mean to imply that your contribution is unappreciated … perhaps you should read Your first article … and remember, there was a time when I knew less about how Wikipedia works than you know right now, and I am always available to help you become a more proactive contributor. —72.75.72.63 (talk) 03:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
